History Of The Famous Wellington Boots
Wellies are a hit amongst all. They are tough, water proof, resistant to wear and tear and highly durable. We shall now take a look at the origin of these highly popular boots.
The then Duke of Wellington, asked his personal shoe maker to modify and improve upon the Hessian boot of the 18th century. The shoe maker, Hoby, of the famous St. James Street, created boots out of soft calf skin leather and removed the trim and thus, it fit the leg better and more closely and comfortably.
These were perfect for the battle field, as they had low cut heels, and were calf length. They were hard and tough for the wars but at the same time, they were comfortable enough for the evenings. Gradually, these Wellington boots became popular and well known.
Today, Wellies are a part of every closet. They are made of rubber and are water proof. They come in various sizes and colors, ranging from the basic Black Wellies and the brown ones, to the latest funky ones in pink, blue, red and yellow.
There are some called the Festival Wellies that have embellishments and designs and motifs on them that make them look prettier and glamorous.
